View of Manhattan From Staten Island

This is one place I would visit when I go to NYC, I love the way you can see Manhattan in the distance, I like places like that. This view gives you the sheer size of the city.

Bank Street Staten Island. Don't forget to zoom in!

Sitting and looking out across the the water is a very relaxing thing to do and as there is a small park over the way that of course can be done.

Elevated Trains

There are so many things that I want to do when I visit New York City I couldn’t possibly list them in one go. However, one thing I am really looking forward to is travelling on the elevated train tracks. This particular link sums up what I like the most about these elevated trains in NYC; the old tracks running over the ground with the cars driving underneath, seen in so many movies over the years.. Some of them looking rusty and worse for wear but such an integral part of what makes New York so special to me.

The way these trains/tracks cut into the buildings and the whole atmosphere, sights and smells, make it one of my top hotspots to visit. I’m so looking forward to actually travelling on one of these and seeing the city from the perspective of those who travel these rails everyday.

I often follow under the tracks via Google Streetview and am amazed at the amount of stations that I come across and how close they are to one another.

Living so close to London, I travel the Underground here and we do have certain parts that are elevated rather than being so deep underground and rather dark. The (hopefully) day when I get to actually travel on these NYC rails makes me wonder if my expectations will be exceeded.

Ok let me start, this blog will be me posting updates of my trip round New York City in the comfort of my sofa using Google street View. For years I have had a yearning to go to New York City, but lack of money has prevented me from going. So until I win the Lottery or somehow save up enough money, I will just have to carry on using Street View. Well when I do go to NYC I should not get lost!

We start at West 10th Street Coney Island, looking at the Wonder Wheel!

So we must start at the start!? What I mean is every time I "walk" around NYC I often start at an edge or a place of interest to me, and what better place than where the Warriors started and ended their trip in the 70's gang movie "The Warriors". Along with The French Connection and that fantastic music venue CBGB and many other things besides, I just can't get enough from this great city. I have to admit I also dream about walking around the back streets of NYC (Something I have been doing since I was a child in the 70's) and seeing places most people would not care to see. So Google street view is a God send and a second best until I make it all the way to New York City from merry old England.

Please comment positive or negative, if you know of any interesting places to point me to then please drop me a line,Gary.
